Dental braces
Dental braces are orthodontic appliances used to straighten misaligned teeth and jaws.
The treatment can theoretically be carried out by any dentist. Orthodontists, however, are specialised in this field and have completed an additional training of several years. The basis of modern braces with brackets dates back to the 19th century. Removable braces have been available since about 1920. Clear braces (aligners), which are very popular nowadays, were developed in 1998 by Align Technology in the USA. Braces include appliances such as: lingual braces, multibracket appliance, magnetic orthodontic appliance, mandibular and palatal expanders, activator appliance, bionator, headgear, Delair face mask, vestibular plate and aligners.
